In Literacy this term we are going to be focusing on a variety of genres like poetry and persuasive writing. We are currently enjoying reading 'Matilda' by Roald Dahl.

HAUNTED HOUSE WRITING

Here is a taster of some of the writing have been doing.  The children were asked to imagine a scary, haunted house that a real estate agent was trying to sell to them.  As they approached the house, a storm was brewing outside.

This is an example of one of the children's writing from that point on:

I entered the house and stepped into a cold mist, it felt like the same storm as outside.  There was a pencil hovering above the couch, I jumped back out the door in fright!

I saw a ghost in the window, I waited till the ghost had moved off and then stepped back through the door. The pencil had dropped back onto the couch by then, so I went through to explore the length of the house.

In the kitchen, the frying pan was hovering above the stove, so I went out of there quickly.  I heard growling from the bathroom.  When I finally got to the bedroom, I saw a shadow on the wall so I went out to the lounge and a zombie was just jumping out the window.

That night the roof was creaking and I thought I could hear a skeleton grumbling. By morning I was very pale and I couldn’t wait to leave.  By the time I had packed up all my stuff, all the monsters had gone back to sleep and I was free to run home.
